The eco survey is based on a questionnaire that explores five key areas of a church or institution’s life. Each area is accompanied by practical questions. Here are the five areas and examples of questions:

  • Worship and Teaching
    • Do you integrate prayers or sermons about responsibility toward creation?
    • Do you address environmental issues (pollution, water crisis) in your educational activities?
  • Building Management
    • Do you use energy-efficient light bulbs or renewable energy in the church?
    • Are the buildings maintained to avoid wasting water or electricity?
  • Resource Management
    • Do you reduce the use of single-use plastics during events (e.g., coffee after services)?
    • Do you encourage recycling or composting of waste produced by the community?
  • Community Engagement
    • Do you organize activities to raise awareness among the faithful or the neighborhood about local ecological challenges?
    • Do you collaborate with associations or schools on environmental projects?
  • Connection with Nature
    • Is there a green space or maintained garden around the church or institution?
    • Do you encourage the faithful to appreciate and protect local biodiversity (e.g., planting native trees)?
1️⃣ Do you qualify ?
Before registering and starting the eco survey, ensure the following conditions are met:
  • Do you have a group of at least 3 or 4 people?
  • Have you obtained approval from your community’s leaders (e.g., priest, council) to pursue the EcoChurch initiative and pay the annual membership fee?
  • Do you have access to your community’s communication channels (e.g., bulletin board, newsletter, announcements, website) to share planned actions and progress?
  • Has your community already held at least one meeting, prayer session, or concrete action focused on respecting creation?

2️⃣ I qualify, how do I register?

  1. Form a working group of at least 3 people. To start the Eco Church process, you need the approval of your church leadership. Then appoint a contact person (from) your working group.
  2. Register your working group here or the button below and get a personal login.
  3. Performs online self-assessment on ecological issues of your church. You can adjust the answers at any time. If you have collected enough points, you will receive a notification by email and can apply for the first Eco Church Level (Eco Church member) from then on.
  4. Help preserve creation and become more ecological! Carry out the first measures in your parish and adjust the answers in the questionnaire in order to achieve the highest Eco Church Level (gold) in the long term.
